The iconic Arch greets visitors to the Gateway to the West, also known as St Louis, Missouri. And most people know to head over to the Anheuser-Busch brewery for a cold beer once they finish wandering Forrest Park, the largest public park in the United States.
But, beyond the arch, St. Louis has even more to offer.
So many people miss most of the really awesome hidden gems that make St Louis one of the best places to visit. And these are just a few!
St. Louis – Missouri Botanical Garden
The Missouri Botanical Garden is the oldest continuously operating garden in the country. Inside the beautifully wrought iron fence are 79 acres of winding paths through all types of imaginable gardens. There is even a traditional English garden maze ripe for exploring. Plus, there’s really something for all ages! The Botanical Garden has a children’s garden area too. And, if you’re a fan of the exotic, be sure not to miss one of the largest collections of exotic and endangered orchids in the world.
The City Museum
This is a true one-of-a-kind place. It is an indoor playground.
But before you write it off as just a place for kids you need to know that this place has a slide that is 10-stories long that you access from a section called “the caves.”
A rooftop play area opens when weather permits. And, there is an in-house circus. Knee pads are not required, but come highly recommended. Kids of all ages have funs. And the adult children may even have more than those truly under 18. Needless to say, your whole group will love this space. It’s perfect for the kid hiding inside every adult.
The American Kennel Club Museum of the Dog
Perfect for those of you that are animal lovers, this St. Louis museum is dedicated to art celebrating man’s best friend. With more than 700 original pieces of art, dog lovers rejoice! And, in addition to their permanent collection, they offer weekly spotlights on various breeds of dogs.
