Spring is around the corner, and oh what a winter it’s been. Are you ready for some warmth, sunshine and towering spires of red sandstone? Think Zion National Monument in the beautiful high deserts of Utah for any vacation in March, April or May.

Zion is world-famous for its incredible arches, soaring red cliffs and beautiful sandstone formations. And these stunning  geological features are all worth the hype. Every turn of the road, every switchback on the trail tempts visitors with more staggering views of epic grandeur.

But in the springtime, there is also a different beauty. As the snows melt and seep into the desert, and rare rainstorms wash the countryside, the delicate and intimate beauty of a desert in bloom rewards the few visitors wise enough to see it first hand.

While you sun yourself out of the lingering cold of winter on the red rocks, like the native Colorado banded lizard, and take incredible side hikes without the crowds and heat of summer, prepare to be intoxicated by the  molten reds of claret cup cacti blooms and brilliant pinks and yellows of the prickly pear The sage brush and grasses glow with fleeting new growth, and rare song birds on migration flood the green haze of the Cottonwoods along the Colorado River nearby.

The warmth of spring doesn’t bring crowds like the heat of summer, and the whole, mysterious maze of ancient red rocks and young growth is open to anyone willing to take the trip.

But we’ll warn you right now, every time you share the incredible photos you take in a place like this, you’ll find yourself saying, “Oh that just doesn’t do it justice. You had to be there.”
