The rains are over (we hope). The hills are a brilliant green and the wildflowers and other blooms are out in full force. All of which make the Napa Valley a better-than-ever place to celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 14. There are any number of ways to treat your mom or wife like a queen. Try one or more of these:
Get her out of the kitchen. Restaurants from Napa to Calistoga are pulling out all the stops for moms this year with special Mother’s Day brunches. Some of our favorites are FARM, Bouchon Bistro, Brix, the Restaurant at Auberge, Harvest Table, Farmstead at Long Meadow Ranch, the Grill at Meadowood, and SolBar.
Take her on a sentimental journey. Accompany mom on a relaxing three-hour trip aboard the Napa Valley Wine Train, including a tasting of its private-label wine and a multi-course, gourmet meal. Or enjoy a Balloon ride with Napa Valley Aloft and add on a Champagne post-flight breakfast.
Treat her to a day of pampering. Book a massage, or a facial – or the works – at one of the valley’s full-service resorts. Try Spa Terra at the Meritage Resort, Villagio Inn and Spa, the Spa at Silverado Resort, Meadowood, and Solage.
Toast her with a tasting. Beringer Vineyards is offering a complimentary tasting for all mothers and their companions in its Old Winery building, along with a long-stemmed flower for Mom.
Celebrate her al fresco. Buy supplies for a high-end picnic at V. Sattui Winery’s extensive artisan deli, then pounce on one of the highly coveted tables under the olive trees for a leisurely lunch. Or reserve a Local Wines and Culinary Picnic at Liana Estates and grab a spot overlooking the Carneros region, then play a friendly game of bocce.
Whatever you do, be nice to your siblings and no elbows on the table. Moms deserve that at least one day a year, right?
