There’s something undeniably romantic about San Francisco. Any kind of food-related, cultural, outdoor, urban, or adventurous outing you have in mind is likely possible. Since love is always in the air, it’s a great year-round romantic escape. Loews Regency San Francisco Concierge Brian Miller shares 5 suggestions for romantic places and outings.
Table of Contents
The “Steps” of San Francisco
16th Avenue Tiled Stairs and the view from the top
Thanks to our steep hills, there are quite a few designated steps throughout the city, and they offer lovely views, beautifully kept gardens and unique architecture. Many are maintained by private residences, and are very colorful and local. The San Francisco Chronicle offers their suggestions for the city’s best staircases. Be sure you do not miss seeing at least one set of several tiled steps, such as the 16th Avenue Tiled Stairs or the Lincoln Park Steps, which are adorned with gorgeous, intricate mosaics that create stunning designs. (They make great photo ops!)
Golden Gate Park
Conservatory of Flowers at Golden Gate Park
The Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park is one of Brian Miller’s favorites. “Unique, very floral and sumptuous,” he says. It’s a great way to spend a part of the day in the park, along with visiting the de Young Museum, Stowe Lake and the Japanese Tea Garden. If you want a more leisurely pace, a simple walk through Golden Gate Park when the weather is right is accessible, lovely and peaceful.
Lands End
The Sutro Baths and coastline along Lands End
Lands End is the rugged beach access along the Pacific Ocean. There are pathways and vistas along the Pacific Ocean to the Golden Gate Bridge. It’s for the fit adventurer as parts of Land’s End can be a bit of a hike. If you’re an outdoor lover, don’t miss our 3 suggestions for exploring San Francisco’s natural wonders.
The Merchant Districts of Pacific Heights, Cow Hollow and the Marina
The merchant and shopping districts of Fillmore Street in Pacific Heights, Union Street in Cow Hollow or Chestnut Street in the Marina are wonderful for local shopping and general window shopping, coffee shops, fantastic restaurants, galleries, and cocktails. Set out with your love to these areas to absorb local San Francisco culture and to wine, dine and treat him or her to a little retail therapy.
The Presidio
The Presidio
A unique national park by the Golden Gate Bridge, the Presidio is home to 24 miles of hiking trails and 15 miles of bikeways, along with picnic areas, scenic vistas and forest and wildflowers to enjoy. Brian recommends lunch at the Presidio Social Club and a romantic stroll through the park.
There’s nothing better to top off your romantic excursion than watching the sun set from your room at Loews Regency San Francisco, perched high above everything with views of the city or San Francisco Bay.
