After researching, what intrigued me more was while the island itself, Dark Island, where Singer Castle is located, is only reachable by water, it is actually only about 5 ½ hours from NYC, 1¼ hours from Syracuse, and for our NJ friends just a little longer at around 8 hours. You can make the trip a little more romantic by taking an amtrak train.
On Dark Island in the 1000 Islands sits one of this countries best kept secrets, Singer Castle. One of the few remaining castles in the United States, built in 1905, it was named after the Singer Sewing Machine Company and is the only remaining/existing castle on the St. Lawrence River to be completed, fully furnished and resided in during the heyday of the great builders and industrials in New York. This 4 story, 28 room castle has a Royal Suite that takes up an entire wing of the castle and can accommodate up to 6 guests if you choose to share your magical eveing with friends.
