Reopening Of The Christopher Hotel ~ All Sails Unfurled!
The Christopher version 2018 is ready to set sail! After the devastating hurricane Irma hit the island last September, it was indispensable for the tourism industry in St Barthélemy to get the hotel back in action as quickly as possible.
Hit with full force by the hurricane, this small island of just 25 sq. meters—the jewel of the Caribbean—suffered extensive damage, but the great effort, solidarity, and determination of the residents allowed it to get back on its feet in record time. “The unsinkable St. Barthélemy, there’s a good nickname that has been going around when people speak of our island,” says Nils Dufau, president of the Tourism Committee of Saint Barthélemy. “It is true that when you consider the speed at which the “little France of the Americas” recovered, there is much to be admired.”
The owners of The Christopher did everything in their power to make sure that their property, which was partially destroyed, was brought back to its prior splendor by the beginning of 2018. Less than a week after the storm, the staff of the hotel was already hard at work cleaning up and clearing the first round of debris. Very quickly, local companies took over, as the hotel had but one goal in mind, to be the first 5-star hotel on the island to re-open. Quite a big challenge!
Four months later… the island’s beauty was rebounding, the beaches were accessible for swimming, the majority of the restaurants and boutiques were open, and various events that animate the season, such as the St Barth Bucket Regatta and Les Voiles de Saint-Barth announced that they would take place as planned in mid-March and early April.
By reopening its doors on February 20, 2018, barely six months after the fury of the hurricane, The Christopher Hotel becomes the first of the 5-star hotels to welcome visitors to the island. “A perfect symbol,” adds Nils Dufau, “that represents the legendary energy and persistence of Saint Barthélemy!” For the reopening, the hotel has undergone a magnificent rejuvenation, in the same chic, relaxed spirit that makes it an ideal retreat, where guests feel perfectly at home.
The 42 rooms and suites at the hotel have been entirely renovated, with the same sense of contemporary design. The Spa Sisley, where the treatment rooms open to the ocean, has been updated, and a new fitness room has the latest workout equipment. The waterfront will be one of the highlights of this reconstruction and will amaze our guests on a daily basis. Our infinity pool has been relined with mosaics, and gives way to a starry sky after nightfall.
Our restaurants Taino and Mango, were also entirely rethought, and will provide culinary delights throughout the day, with the authentic gourmet cuisine of our chef, Nicolas Tissier. This fabulous renewal enhances an already exceptional site with its panoramic views of the sea, breathtaking sunsets, and rustling of the palm trees in the background…
In a picture-perfect setting, this luxury hotel has a series of special events throughout the season to add to the overall experience of its guests: “The Hotel Christopher St Barth is an exclusive and trendy address in St Barthélemy. It will be even more so this year with our Sunset Lounge, from Tuesday through Saturday evenings: with an electro-music ambiance around the pool, cocktails and snacks to share and enjoy the last rays of the setting sun,” explains Christophe Chauvin, General Manager of the hotel. “We are also ready to welcome several groups and weddings before the end of the season, and there are already certain dates when we are sold-out.”
