A Philadelphia Love Story: Kathy & Anthony

It goes without saying that college is a journey one embarks on to get a good education. But, this love story reminds us college can be more than books and brains; it was also the start to a love story. Kathy and Anthony crossed paths for the first time, at college over fifteen years ago, while registering for classes.

It did not take long for these two to knew they were soul mates. After being friends for four months and dating for just a month, Kathy and Anthony decided to get married. They tied the knot on January 31, 2002 at the local court house and have been inseparable ever since.

In October 2011, Kathy was faced with one of the biggest challenges of her life, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Kathy underwent multiple treatments, which included a double mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation. Anthony was by her side through it all. Kathy says Anthony taught her to fight and to live with a positive attitude, despite all of the obstacles. “I have never met anyone that makes me laugh the way he makes me laugh,” Kathy said of Anthony.

In 2015 Kathy and Anthony received the news the cancer had metastasized to her bones and in 2017, Kathy was told the cancer spread to her brain. She recently underwent surgery to remove a tumor which was taking up half her skull. Through all of the challenges, the couple remains optimistic and finds strength from in each other. Kathy says she views her cancer, not as a sickness but as a challenge that continues to test her.

Three children and over fifteen years later, Kathy and Anthony continue to be an example of how love and strength can get you through life’s challenges. The couple attributes their fifteen years of marriage to living for the other person’s happiness and continually working to make the other happy.

Kathy and Anthony are excited to have the wedding they have always dreamed of and a day away from the cancer. On January 31, 2018, they will reaffirm their vows surrounded by close friends and family at Union Trust in Philadelphia, PA.

Anthony said, “whether [we have] a year or another fifteen years, today is the best day and tomorrow will be even better”. We hope this wedding day will be one of their best yet.
