Quick: name a Philadelphia food! Most likely, the famed Philly cheesesteak was the first thing that came to mind. While a cheesesteak is certainly a must-have, this city’s food scene has so much more to offer. You’ll work up an appetite wandering around the expanding restaurant scene in Loews Philadelphia‘s thriving neighborhood. Here are some of our favorite new Philly restaurants that locals can’t seem to get enough of.

LPH - restaurant Blue Duck

Blue Duck on Broad

Two Philly natives run the show here, featuring a menu of unique items mixed with traditional favorites. With several “small plate” options, it’s a great place to share a smorgasbord of foods. When in Rome, er…Blue Duck on Broad, try Blue Duck Fries (shredded duck, smokes gouda cheese, scallions, tossed in duck fat). Another must-eat is the Pork Roll Burger, which won the 2014 Philadelphia Burger Brawl.

Rione

It’s not just a pizza place. It’s a pizza experience. Rione uses ingredients imported from Italy as well as local produce, so you can taste its authenticity. Its light, airy crust is just as delicious as what it’s topped with. Rione sells by the slice, so you can try a few options from its varied menu.

Maison 208

The French cuisine-inspired menu is just part of what makes this new restaurant awesome. What I love most about Maison 208 is that it has a retractable roof. So head upstairs, order a cocktail, and enjoy the indoor/outdoor setting on a nice summer night. It’s a great spot for date night, or for a girls’ night out.

Bank & Bourbon Restaurant (bonus!)

OK, it’s not so so new anymore, but there are three reasons why our own Bank & Bourbon is a local favorite:

  1. The food. Bring your appetite – you’ll want to share some items off the snack menu before diving into your entrée. Chef Tom Harkins creates seasonal menus with unique interpretations of American dishes.
  2. The drinks. It’s no surprise they have an extensive list of bourbons. A favorite is the bourbon-inspired cocktail “Blackberry-Thyme Bourbon Smash.”
  3. The atmosphere. It combines an upscale feel with a relaxed environment for a really cool vibe.
