Top Summer Desserts

#XperienceTravelTheTaylorWay

It’s summertime in Annapolis, so the old saying “I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!” could not be more appropriate right now. But ice cream is not the only thing we have on our minds when it comes to summer desserts. Annapolis is a great town to get your sugar fix, and when you stay at Loews Annapolis Hotelyou’re just steps away from all your favorite treats. Whether you are fond of fudge or crazy for cheesecake, you’ll find it all in this charming seaport.

Annapolis Ice Cream Company

Annapolis Ice Cream Company on Main Street serves only the freshest ice cream because they make it from scratch in their shop almost every day. Owners Walter and Nancy Giera started the business in 2004 after many years of research — meaning they ate A LOT of ice cream!

Annapolis Ice Cream Company has been voted “Best of Annapolis” in What’s Up Magazine by its customers for 11 consecutive years. Choose one of their signature flavors, like Peanut Butter Oreo, Apple Pie, and Chocolate Brownie Brownie Batter. Thirty-six flavors rotate daily, so don’t feel shy about making a repeat visit!

BAROAK Annapolis

Guests dining at BAROAK will find several delicious seasonal desserts to enjoy al fresco out on the patio. BAROAK is currently offering a fresh raspberry cheesecake and a Tres Leches dessert, and both are out of this world.

Want to replicate the Tres Leches dessert? You can make your own version of the “three milk” cake dessert with this easy recipe:

Tres Leches

– Bake up a box white cake mix
– While cooling, prepare the three milk soaking liquid
– Mix together 1 cup heavy cream, 1 x 12 oz. can evaporated milk, and 1 x 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
– Poke the cake full of holes to enable the cake to absorb the milk mixture
– Pour the milk over the cake slowly until it’s absorbed
– Refrigerate until ready to serve
– Serve topped with whipped cream and fruit, heavy cream, caramel sauce or a combination.
– Enjoy!

Kilwin’s

When you walk through the door at Kilwin’s, get ready for the smell of chocolate, caramel and fresh homemade waffle cones wafting through the air. The team at here handcrafts a wide variety of candies and other confections on-site in their candy kitchen. Visitors can watch the candy-makers paddle creamy Mackinac Island fudge on traditional marble tables and turn the wooden paddle on a copper kettle to make sweet caramel corn and brittles. Fresh apples are hand-dipped in the original caramel recipe developed by Don Kilwin himself. Also, be sure to try their hand-dipped pretzels, Twinkies, Oreos, and marshmallow puff or Rice Krispie treats. Yum…
