Pack your tote bags and hit the palm-tree lined road: it’s time to get our summer sweat on… the Hollywood way! Sure, you can do one of the city’s popular hiking trails like Runyon Canyon or you can splash in the ocean and call it exercise, but when it comes to the Los Angeles fitness scene, these are the ways we like to get fit and fabulous right here near Loews Hollywood Hotel.
Java Jolt
First things first: we need some energy for this exciting active day. Grab an Uber and take a short drive to West Hollywood and Melrose Avenue, where you’ll find a fun and funky hole-in-the-wall coffee and bagel shop, Alfred in the Alley. As the name suggests, you won’t find this joint on the side of the road like Starbucks. It’s tucked away in an adorably modern alley complete with wrought-iron tables, vines, and graffiti art murals. Aside from the wonderful coffee and atmosphere, you’ll want to have your phone handy to snap some selfies with this appropriately placed mural… I love it a latte!
Pedal Away
Next stop… a visit to Cycle House LA for a invigorating spin class! Dn’t worry, you don’t have far to go: it’s located right next door in the same alley. Convenient, right? I thought so. As an active spinner, I was all for trying this new company for a high-impact, ear drum-busting, sweat-dripping ride. You’ll rock it out on a stationary bicycle for an hour while listening to heart-pumping hits and the instructors motivating you to ride your heart out. If spinning is a new workout for you, don’t be nervous: it’s a fun individual activity in a group setting that will leave you drenched and feeling amazing!
Fuel Up
Now, to fuel up with delicious and healthy foods, and I found no better place than Le Pain Quotidien. There’s no need for an Uber for this trip as it’s only a two-minute walk down Melrose Ave. As the name suggests, this popular restaurant is a French cafe and offers incredible healthy bites. After my morning of coffee and spinning, I opted for a healthy Açaí Bowl made with coconut milk yogurt, homemade granola, chia seeds and a variety of seasonal fruit. But the pièce de résistance for me was absolutely the Avocado Toast! So simple yet so divine, this “tartine” (a slice of bread with a sweet or savory topping) blew me away with a creamy avocado spread, diced tomatoes, evoo, citrus-cumin salt and chia seeds. WOW, a must-try, in my opinion — healthy and full of flavor.
I don’t know about you, but this is definitely my sort of active day, LA style.
