The Rodeo Capital of the World – Cody, Wyoming

#XperienceTravelTheTaylorWay

Dust off your boots and point your wagon to Cody, Wyoming for an exhilarating introduction to the authentic American west. Founded in 1896 by original Wild West icon William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody, the small city is the perfect off the beaten path destination for a traveler seeking a taste of the cowboy life.

Cody is perhaps most famous as the Rodeo Capital of the World, with headline events running throughout each summer. The Cody Stampede has been held every July since 1919!

For the history buff, Cody offers numerous museums and historic sites, including Old Trail Town. Don’t miss the artifacts, famous grave sites, or the original cabins. A particular highlight is the home of a Crow Indian scout who helped guide Lt Col. George A. Custer to the battle of the Little Big Horn in 1876.

Other visitors come to Cody for its scenic attractions and proximity to the great outdoors. While Cody itself offers countless opportunities to hike, bike, fish, and explore, both in the city and off the beaten path, the city also serves as a Wyoming gateway to Yellowstone National Park. Cody lies just 50 miles from the eastern entrance to the park, and serves as the departure point for travelers on the Buffalo Bill Scenic Byway, which runs along the Shoshone River. The breathtaking vistas of this route were once described by Teddy Roosevelt as “the most scenic 50 miles in the world.”

Once you’ve finished your travels and are ready to settle your horses for the night, Cody welcomes you back to its historic downtown, where you can enjoy fine dining or simply a scoop of ice cream while you sit back and soak in the true spirit of the American West.
