The Tohono Chul Park manages the desert’s natural resources and exposes visitors to those resources in a memorable manner. The park has daily tours, one of which includes a general “walk in the park” that takes you over 49 acres containing trails, gardens, and desert habitats supporting local wildlife. Think exotic reptiles, butterflies, sharp-eyed hawks, bristly javelina, and slinking coyotes. It’s a fun ecology lesson!
Spectacular gardens represent the diverse desert flora. The Hummingbird Garden provides plants that hummingbirds love. Desert palms and canyon plants thrive in their own area. The Children’s Garden contains hidden surprises and touchable items even adults enjoy. There’s also a riparian demonstration garden.
One fascinating attraction is the 55-foot long Geology Wall. It’s constructed of hundreds of rock specimens from several dozen geologic formations in the Santa Catalina Mountains. The Wall exhibits almost two billions years of Earth’s structural history!
Three art galleries display works by local and regional artists. These incredible pieces, including basketry, paintings, fiber art and sculptures, reflect the culture of the Sonoran region.
When hunger strikes, the Garden Bistro serves breakfast, brunch, and lunch. The menu is seasonal, sometimes changing daily based on available local ingredients.
The Shops at Tohono Chul offer unique souvenirs, including hand-crafted jewelry, books, pottery, regional foods, and local plants.
Tohono Chul is at 7366 North Paseo del Norte in Tucson. The grounds and Bistro are open daily 8 AM to 5 PM, except for closure on New Year’s, July 4th, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Admission fees are: Adult $5, Children (5-12) 3$, Senior (62) $8, with military and student discounts. Daily tours and fun ecostations are free with the price of admission. Reservations aren’t necessary.
