If you have been to San Francisco, you know that there seems to be an endless supply of gorgeous spots to view the city, and take incredible pictures. Wanting to go beyond the standard bridge and Fisherman’s Warf sign, I caught up with one of my favorite San Francisco photographers, Kane Andrade, and he gave me his top 5 spots to wander during your trip to San Francisco. Check out his tips below.
Battery Spencer
This spot has the most incredible view of the Golden Gate Bridge. This point is unreal. You are so close to the Golden Gate and you feel like you could reach out and touch it. You can also see the whole city from here. There are bunkers from WWII that you can walk into they are spread all around Marin Headlands. This is by far one of my favorite places.
Kirby Cove
Kirby Cove is a hike, and all in all, it takes about 30 minutes. There’s a great view of the Golden Gate on the way down. Once you get to the bottom there there’s a beach with a perfect view of the Golden Gate and the city. If you want that beach and bridge shot, this is the spot. There is also a famous swing that everyone takes pictures with facing the city which is absolutely stunning to watch sunrise or sunset at.
Sutro Baths
A lesser known San Francisco spot, the Sutro Baths have an interesting history. Sutro Baths was swimming pool complex that burned down in 1966. You can really see the ruins throughout this site. You can walk around what used to be the pool, and there is a small cave that you can walk through as well. It’s a great place to hike around the trails lead you to Lands End which lets out to great views of San Francisco as well.
Twin Peaks
Twin Peaks is one of the best spots to overlook the city. If you stay there throughout the sunset you can slowly see the city lights turn on. This experience is super unique, and something that many Bay Area natives would recommend. It’s the second highest peak in the city. (Don’t forget, Loews Regency San Francisco is the tallest hotel in California). You have a 360 view of San Francisco.
Palace of Fine Arts
This is a classic spot in San Francisco, both for photos, and events. I love taking pictures of the Palace of Fine Arts because the architecture is very romantic. It’s such a beautiful place to walk through. As you can see, the reflections in the water make it the perfect spot to catch the colors at dusk. the palace lights up at night and makes the water glow beautifully. The palace usually has different art exhibitions or events going on that are worth checking out as well. Bring a picnic with you and enjoy the views.
