Whether you’re a regular culture-vulture or you’d just like to visit the valley at a time when it’s even more colorful and engaged than usual, Napa Valley Arts in April has something to seduce your senses. The seventh-annual county-wide arts festival will showcase more than 40 locally produced events at museums, galleries, wineries, and other venues from American Canyon to Calistoga and every town in between. Five central city events will highlight each town’s unique culture.
The festival kicks off March 31, 2017 with a Friday night gala for the third-annual ENGAGE Art Fair at Calistoga’s Napa County Fairgrounds, and closes on April 30 with Napa’s first-annual FLOW festival – a performing and visual arts presentation at the Oxbow Commons and the new Rail Arts District in downtown Napa.
Here are just a few of the other exciting events planned during the month-long festival:
- An evening of open-mic poetry – both of Robert Louis Stevenson’s work and other, contemporary poets at the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum in St. Helena. April 27, 7pm.
- A Celebration of Form – a daylong visual and performing arts showcase with local artist Chelsea Ritter-Soronen and the Diablo Ballet at the Lincoln Theater Performing Arts Center in Yountville. April 22, 11am to 5pm and 7 to 9 pm.
- Live painting demonstrations with various local artists at the Jessel Gallery in Napa. Every weekend in April; artists’ reception on April 7 from 5 to 8 pm.
- Artist-winery pairings at the Crusher Wine District in Napa. Throughout the month of April, with an artists’ reception on April 29 from 4 to 7pm.
- Tasting and walking tours of an acclaimed permanent exhibit, featuring some of the most prominent artists working today, at HALL Wines in St. Helena. Every Sunday in April at 11 am (complimentary for 4 guests for up to 45 minutes).
- A workshop with renowned local ceramicist William Callnan III of NBC Pottery in which you can make your own “Wabi-sabi” teacup set at Napa Valley Museum in Yountville. April 15 from 2 to 4pm, $50.
- The Red Gala, Havana Nights with Cuban pianist Aldo López-Gavilán, in an annual fundraiser for the Napa Valley Youth Symphony at the Lincoln Theater Performing Arts Center in Yountville. Dinner at 5pm, concert at 8pm.
- “Maple and Vine,” a play presented by the Lucky Penny Theater, runs from April 21 to May 7, 2017 at the Community Arts Center in Napa.
