Yes You Can Be Queen of the Castle
Having a little inner princess and always wanting to stay in a castle, I was intrigued when I came across a small snippet in a travel magazine mentioning Singer Castle. After researching, what intrigued me more was while the island itself, Dark Island, where Singer Castle is located, is only reachable by water, it is actually only about 5 ½ hours from NYC, 1¼ hours from Syracuse, and for our NJ friends just a little longer at around 8 hours. You can make the trip a little more romantic by taking an amtrak train.
On Dark Island in the 1000 Islands sits one of this countries best kept secrets, Singer Castle. One of the few remaining castles in the United States, built in 1905, it was named after the Singer Sewing Machine Company and is the only remaining/existing castle on the St. Lawrence River to be completed, fully furnished and resided in during the heyday of the great builders and industrials in New York. This 4 story, 28 room castle has a Royal Suite that takes up an entire wing of the castle and can accommodate up to 6 guests if you choose to share your magical eveing with friends. Yes the Royal Suite can be booked from May – October.
The magnificent luxury bedroom within the Royal Suite consists of a California King-sized canopy bed, a suede-sitting chair and queen sized sleeper couch. A leather settee and a dresser/armoire set add additional charm to this luxurious bedroom, which conceal the TV/DVD/VCR. Because many of us can’t live without the internet, you will have high-speed wifi to share your selfies being queen of the castle . Care to pen a blog while there the room is also equipped with a sitting area with a table and chair set and a period style writer’s desk.
In addition to being one of the most romantic suites in the US, the Royal Suite comes complete with a catered dinner in the evening and an extended private personal redundant tour. The 28 room castle and 7 acre island truly becomes yours for the evening allowing you to coordinate where you would like to have dinner. Now feeling totally Royal, will you choose the dining room, tearoom, or a more non-traditional option such as the drawing room, loggia, or the front terrace? Your stay will conclude with the serving of a continental breakfast complete with coffee, tea, pastries and cold beverages.
Singer Castle is perfect for the most romantic getaway or for that once in a lifetime proposal. Nothing says romance like a night in an actual castle. If you are looking for a location like no other for that special ceremony, you can hold your wedding in the rose garden at the castle and spend your first evening as husband & wife in the Royal Suite like a king & queen.
With everything it has to offer it is easy to see why Singer Castle is such an enchanting place.
